Cocktail Hour…Basil-tini!
It’s 5pm somewhere…
There’s no doubt that our fresh basil is a firm favourite amongst our customers and we love hearing about how you’re using the produce we grow in our smart farm.
Basil is a classic seasoning ingredient in tomato sauces and pasta dishes and its aromatic nature means it can liven up any dish. However, we wanted to give you some summer inspo for something a little more appropriate for this balmy weather we’re having in the UK.
Our hand-harvested basil is grown indoors in optimal conditions so it lasts longer and tastes better, which is why it makes a great addition to this delicious cocktail.
Give this basil-tini recipe a whirl, it’s fizzy and FRESH. Just like you.
Ingredients:
A generous handful of Greenhaus basil
50 ml gin (or vodka if preferred)
25 ml freshly squeezed lemon juice
25 ml gomme/sugar syrup (adjust to taste)
Generous ice
Soda water or sparkling water
Lemon slices and additional basil leaves for garnish
Instructions:
In a cocktail shaker, add the fresh basil leaves and gently muddle them to release their aromatic flavours. Be sure not to over-muddle, as basil can become bitter if crushed too much.
Add the gin (or vodka), freshly squeezed lemon juice, and gomme to the shaker.
Fill the shaker with ice cubes and tightly seal it.
Shake the mixture vigorously for about 15-20 seconds to chill the ingredients and infuse the flavours of basil into the drink.
Fill a highball or Collins glass with ice cubes.
Strain the cocktail mixture from the shaker into the glass, allowing the liquid to flow over the ice cubes.
Top up the glass with soda water or sparkling water to your desired level.
Give the cocktail a gentle stir to combine the ingredients.
Garnish with a lemon slice and a fresh basil leaf on top.
Serve your refreshing Basiltini cocktail immediately, kick-back, relax and enjoy!
Feel free to adjust the sweetness by adding more or less sugar syrup, depending on your personal taste. You can also experiment with different variations by adding a splash of elderflower liqueur or swapping the gin for vodka or even a non-alcoholic spirit for a mocktail version.
Cheers!
